That’s why this July, we’re not just talking about Plastic Free July - we’re giving it a full Lovechock twist: funny, fierce, and (you guessed it) foil-free. Well… no plastic foil, anyway.
We invite you to jump into the #PlasticFreeJuly challenge with us - a global movement to rethink the rubbish and reduce plastic for 31 whole days. It's like a detox… but for your bin.
Chocolate in a home compostable hug
We know what you’re thinking: “Sure, chocolate is great... but what about the wrapper?” Good question. We’ve been asking ourselves that for years. That’s why, since 2011 (before it was cool), our chocolate has been lovingly wrapped in a foil from wood cellulose — no plastic foil in sight! It’s made from eucalyptus trees grown in certified sustainable forests (PEFC and FSC — yep, we love our acronyms as much as we love the planet).
Even better? Our foil is home compostable. Not just “might-disappear-one-day-if-you-beg-it” compostable. This stuff actually breaks down in your garden compost. One of our partners even did a test, buried 16 wrappers in an Amsterdam backyard (and, weirdly, a kiwi wrap from Albert Heijn), and after three months, our sustainable packaging had practically vanished. Magic? Nope. Just nature doing its thing.
Why we’re serious about sustainable packaging?
Look, we love having fun - but plastic pollution? Not funny. Wildlife is suffering, oceans are drowning in microplastics, and the Earth is basically saying, “Can you not?” So we’ve made it our mission to create sustainable packaging that gives back to the planet rather than taking from it.

Home Compostable Foil
In our role as pioneers - long before the European Union introduced a ban on free plastic bags to combat plastic waste - we set out to find a solution for environmentally friendly packaging. Now we can proudly say that our packaging has been home compostable since 2011. We use wood cellulose as a renewable resource to create a transparent foil which is 100% home compostable. The wood cellulose comes from the eucalyptus tree, which in turn comes from certified, sustainable forestry (PEFC and FSC).
